About the area: Saugerties is about 3 miles away, a sweet village with numerous antique shops. The center of Woodstock is less than 10 miles from the property. The equestrian 'HITS' is nearby. This is at the edge of the Catskill Mountains, with fishing, hiking, tubing, and other outdoor activities. For the past 20 years, this has been one of our favorite retreats, starting in 2011 we are hoping to share it with like minded people. The lake for a few of the warmer months has watermeal, a tiny pinhead size leaf that floats on the surface. When it's breezy, the lake is clear of it, when it's totally calm the leaves spread out on the lake. When colder weather comes, they're gone. Our favorite times there are September or October through May, the cold weather makes the water clear, more like a lake, in summer, it looks more like a pond. Below is our preliminary outline of a plan we hope will work, to share it in a way that is reasonably priced without putting too many demands on our tim
How can we share it?: The question we face is, how to make it reasonable in cost, and at the same time, provide the needed cleaning and housekeeping that goes with having a rental. Hiring a housekeeper to change sheets and towels right away makes costs that make the price for a 'camping cabin' more than folks would feel was fair. Our goal is to be able to keep this charming spot, not make it a profitable business, just cover the costs. That is why originally we thought only renting for a week minimum would be practical if we had to hire a housekeeping between every guest. But initial inquiries were for weekends or long weekends. So if that was going to work, we had to figure a way to make that reasonably priced. So here's our plan, going into August 2011 - We will try it out to see if it can work. In order to keep expenses down, we ask that guests be prepared to bring their own sleeping bags and towels. Ask that guests 'leave it as they found it'
. .: We trust that this would work a large majority of the time, as most guests who were interested in this type of retreat would be respectful of the next guest. A minimum of once a month we'd check out the cabin and fix deficiencies, if any. We would have at the cabin plates, glasses, utensils, toilet paper, paper towels, a Coleman 2 burner stove for cooking and fuel for it. As It is camping, ask that you bring candles and/or flashlights, drinking water, etc. - what you would for camping. In front of the cabin there;s a firepit and grill. Woods are full of kindling and dead wood for fuel. there's a camp saw, please only use dead wood, there's plenty on the 20 acres. IN DRY SEASON BE SURE NO COMBUSTIBLES ARE NEAR THE FIREPIT WHEN YOU MAKE A FIRE, AND DON'T LEAVE AN UNATTENDED FIRE.
No bathroom or outhouse. We go away from the cabin, and use the 20 acres. Just scrap away the dead leaf layer on the ground, and cover up.

Had a great time in Woodstock. The converted barn did not disappoint. It is so relaxing and a perfect end to our holiday in USA. The barn had an old world charm with all the facilities needed to meet our families needs. I did not want to leave. Quiet and peaceful food for the soul. Hope to go back soon
